Overview

Intestamin + Reconvan is a combination enteral nutrition regimen developed by Fresenius Kabi for the management of critically ill and septic patients. The regimen consists of two distinct components: Intestamin, an incomplete enteral supplement providing high doses of glutamine dipeptides, antioxidative vitamins (C, E, beta-carotene), trace elements (selenium, zinc), and butyrate; and Reconvan, a complete enteral formula enriched with immunonutrients such as arginine and glutamine. This sequential therapy is typically administered via a nasogastric tube, starting with Intestamin as a supplement followed by Reconvan as the primary enteral formula. The regimen is designed to reduce organ dysfunction, as measured by Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores, and improve clinical outcomes by replenishing conditionally essential nutrients that are often depleted during severe illness, sepsis, or major surgery.
