This is a combination therapy consisting of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and recombinant human thrombopoietin (rhTPO). IVIG is a blood product containing pooled IgG antibodies from healthy donors, used primarily for its immunomodulatory effects in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Recombinant human thrombopoietin is a full-length glycosylated cytokine produced by Chinese hamster ovary cells that mimics endogenous thrombopoietin to stimulate the production of megakaryocytes and platelets via activation of the MPL receptor. The combination may be used in clinical settings where both immune modulation (to reduce platelet destruction) and stimulation of platelet production are desired, such as severe or refractory immune thrombocytopenia or chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia[1][2][5]. Both components have distinct mechanisms—IVIG modulates immune responses while rhTPO directly stimulates platelet generation.
