Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination is a synbiotic preparation consisting of the probiotic bacterium *Bifidobacterium longum* and the prebiotic fibers inulin and oligofructose. *Bifidobacterium longum* is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacterium that is a natural inhabitant of the human gastrointestinal tract. It provides health benefits by producing lactic acid, inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria, and modulating the host's immune response. Inulin and oligofructose are non-digestible fructan-type carbohydrates that serve as selective substrates (prebiotics) to stimulate the growth and metabolic activity of beneficial bacteria like *Bifidobacteria* in the colon. The combination of these prebiotics with the probiotic strain aims to enhance the survival, colonization, and efficacy of *B. longum* in the gut, thereby improving intestinal microbiota balance, supporting the intestinal barrier, and potentially alleviating symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
