Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ioflupane F-18 (also known as F-18 FP-CIT) is a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical used as a diagnostic imaging agent in positron emission tomography (PET). It is a cocaine analogue that binds with high affinity to the presynaptic dopamine transporter (DAT) in the striatum of the brain. By visualizing and quantifying DAT density, ioflupane F-18 allows clinicians to evaluate nigrostriatal dopaminergic degeneration. It is primarily utilized for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of parkinsonian syndromes, such as Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, and progressive supranuclear palsy, distinguishing them from non-degenerative conditions like essential tremor. Originally developed by Asan Medical Center and FutureChem, it is approved and marketed in South Korea under the brand name PDVUE.
