**IPL512,602** is a small molecule immunomodulator developed as a novel, leukocyte-selective anti-inflammatory drug, originally synthesized by Inflazyme Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with Aventis and sometimes referenced under the code name AVE0547. It is part of the IPL576 series, which are synthetic derivatives based on contignasterol, a marine-derived steroid with histamine-liberating inhibitory properties. IPL512,602 exhibits anti-inflammatory activity thought to act by modulating leukocyte function without the glucocorticoid-associated side effects, potentially inhibiting mediators of the inflammatory response such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), prostaglandin D2, and interleukin-5. It was investigated primarily as an oral therapy for asthma and related respiratory diseases in patients inadequately controlled on inhaled corticosteroids. Clinical development reached Phase IIb trials, but the program was discontinued.
