Overview
IPOVAC is an inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) developed in Vietnam by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) and the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (POLYVAC). It is a trivalent vaccine designed to provide active immunity against poliomyelitis caused by poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. As an inactivated vaccine, it contains killed virus particles that stimulate the production of neutralizing antibodies without the risk of vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis (VAPP) associated with live-attenuated oral vaccines. IPOVAC was developed as part of Vietnam's national strategy to transition from oral polio vaccine (OPV) to inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) in its routine immunization program, providing a locally manufactured alternative to international products like Sanofi's IMOVAC-POLIO.
