Overview

A fixed-dose combination of **ipragliflozin** (a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2, SGLT2, inhibitor) and an **alpha glucosidase inhibitor** (such as acarbose, voglibose, or miglitol) for oral use in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. **Ipragliflozin** reduces blood glucose by inhibiting SGLT2 in the kidney, promoting urinary glucose excretion and reducing plasma glucose levels independent of insulin[1][3][5]. **Alpha glucosidase inhibitors** delay carbohydrate digestion and absorption by competitively inhibiting brush-border enzymes (glucoamylase, sucrase, maltase, isomaltase), thereby reducing postprandial glucose excursions without increasing insulin secretion[2][4][6]. The combination provides *additive antihyperglycemic effects* by targeting both renal glucose reabsorption and intestinal glucose absorption, leading to improved glycemic control in type 2 diabetes patients insufficiently controlled with monotherapy[3][7]. Used primarily in type 2 diabetes; not approved for type 1 diabetes.
