Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ipragliflozin + metformin is an oral fixed-dose combination drug used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The combination harnesses two complementary mechanisms to improve glycemic control: metformin, a biguanide, reduces hepatic glucose production and increases insulin sensitivity, while ipragliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, reduces renal glucose reabsorption, facilitating urinary glucose excretion. Clinical data demonstrate improved efficacy and safety for the combination versus metformin monotherapy, providing better glucose and HbA1c control with a low risk of hypoglycemia[1][2][3][4].
