Overview

This is a combination drug consisting of ipratropium bromide, an anticholinergic agent, and terfenadine, a second-generation antihistamine. Ipratropium bromide acts as a muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist, leading to bronchodilation and reduction of secretions in the airways. Terfenadine is an H1 histamine receptor antagonist that blocks the action of histamine in allergic responses without significant central nervous system effects. The combination has been studied for enhanced protection against bronchoconstriction (e.g., in asthma) and for relief of rhinorrhea associated with rhinitis or upper respiratory tract allergies. Studies indicate that their combined use provides greater protection against bronchoconstrictive stimuli than either drug alone[1][2][6].
