IPTc + CCM is a therapeutic strategy and drug combination intervention developed by Cheikh Anta Diop University for the prevention and treatment of malaria in children. This intervention combines Seasonal Intermittent Preventive Treatment in children (IPTc), also known as Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC), with Community Case Management (CCM). The preventive component (IPTc) utilizes a combination of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) and amodiaquine (AQ) administered monthly during the peak malaria transmission season. The treatment component (CCM) involves the diagnosis of malaria using Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) and treatment of confirmed cases with artemether-lumefantrine (AL) at the community level. Sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine function as antifolate agents, while amodiaquine and lumefantrine interfere with heme detoxification. Artemether provides rapid parasite clearance through oxidative damage or inhibition of the parasite's calcium ATPase. This integrated approach aims to reduce the malaria burden in high-transmission areas by maintaining protective drug levels and ensuring prompt access to treatment.
