Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Irbesartan + amlodipine** is an oral fixed-dose antihypertensive combination of two small molecules: irbesartan, a selective angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker, and amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker. Dual inhibition of angiotensin II-mediated vasoconstriction and L-type calcium-channel-mediated vascular smooth-muscle contraction lowers systemic blood pressure. It is marketed in multiple countries as fixed-dose tablets, including Aprovasc and ILUAMIX, for essential hypertension inadequately controlled with either component alone or for patients transitioning from the two agents given separately.
