irbesartan + levoamlodipine

Irbesartan + levoamlodipine is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) antihypertensive medication consisting of irbesartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and levoamlodipine, the chirally pure (S)-enantiomer of the calcium channel blocker amlodipine. Irbesartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, leading to vasodilation and reduced aldosterone secretion. Levoamlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, resulting in peripheral arterial vasodilation. This combination therapy is developed by Chengdu Shuode Pharmaceutical for the treatment of primary hypertension, aiming to provide synergistic blood pressure reduction with potentially fewer side effects compared to racemic amlodipine.
