Overview

Irinotecan + celecoxib is an investigational combination therapy consisting of two small molecule drugs. Irinotecan is a topoisomerase I inhibitor that interferes with DNA replication in cancer cells, leading to cell death. Celecoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor that reduces inflammation and may have antitumor effects by inhibiting COX-2-mediated pathways involved in tumor growth and angiogenesis. This combination has been studied primarily for its potential synergistic antitumor activity in various cancers, including recurrent malignant glioma and pancreatic cancer. Clinical trials have evaluated the safety and efficacy of this regimen; it has shown tolerability but mixed results regarding improved outcomes over standard therapies[1][3][4][5].
