Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Irinotecan + docetaxel is a combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily in the treatment of advanced solid tumors, including esophageal cancer and other malignancies. Irinotecan is a topoisomerase I inhibitor that interferes with DNA replication by stabilizing the complex between topoisomerase I and DNA, leading to lethal double-stranded DNA breaks and apoptosis. Docetaxel is a taxoid antineoplastic agent that promotes microtubule assembly and stabilizes them against depolymerization, disrupting cell division and inducing cell death. The combination has shown synergistic effects in preclinical studies, particularly when docetaxel is administered before irinotecan[1][6]. Both drugs are approved for use as single agents in various cancers; their combination has been investigated in clinical trials for advanced esophageal cancer and other solid tumors[1][6].
