Overview

This is a combination regimen consisting of three drugs commonly used in oncology, particularly for gastrointestinal cancers such as colorectal and pancreatic cancer. Irinotecan is a topoisomerase I inhibitor that prevents DNA replication in cancer cells, leading to cell death. Oxaliplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that causes DNA crosslinking and apoptosis. Pegfilgrastim is a long-acting recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) analog that stimulates the production of neutrophils by binding to the G-CSF receptor on myeloid cells, thereby reducing the risk of chemotherapy-induced neutropenia[1][6][8]. This combination may be used with other agents (such as 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin) in regimens like FOLFIRINOX or FOIL for advanced colorectal or pancreatic cancer[3][7][8]. Pegfilgrastim helps maintain dose intensity by preventing febrile neutropenia associated with these cytotoxic agents[2][5].
