Overview
Irinotecan liposome is a liposomal formulation of the topoisomerase I inhibitor irinotecan. By encapsulating irinotecan in a nanoliposomal carrier, the drug achieves prolonged circulation and enhanced accumulation within tumor tissues, where it is converted to its active metabolite, SN-38. This formulation is designed to improve the therapeutic index and reduce systemic toxicity compared to conventional irinotecan. It is primarily approved for the treatment of metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma in combination with 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin following progression on gemcitabine-based therapy.
