FeHQ is an experimental coordination complex consisting of a central iron(III) ion coordinated with 8-hydroxyquinoline ligands. It is primarily investigated for its potent antineoplastic activity, particularly against human ovarian cancer cell lines such as A2780. The compound's mechanism of action involves the induction of intracellular oxidative stress through the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which leads to DNA damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, and the activation of apoptotic pathways. FeHQ is also studied for its potential to interfere with cellular iron homeostasis and its application in bioorthogonal chemistry.
