Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of iron sucrose, human erythropoietin (recombinant), and vitamin C (ascorbic acid). It is used primarily to treat anemia, especially in patients who are unable or unwilling to receive blood transfusions, such as those with chronic kidney disease or postoperative anemia. - **Iron sucrose** acts as an intravenous iron replacement that provides bioavailable iron for incorporation into hemoglobin during red blood cell synthesis. - **Human erythropoietin** stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, increasing red blood cell production. - **Vitamin C** enhances the mobilization and absorption of iron from storage sites and may reduce oxidative stress associated with parenteral iron administration; it also helps facilitate the response to erythropoietin by promoting effective hematopoiesis[1][3][4]. This combination has been shown to be effective in increasing hemoglobin levels postoperatively and in patients with chronic kidney disease when used together compared to monotherapy[1][2][5].
