Overview

ISIS 14803 + peginterferon alfa + ribavirin is a combination therapy investigated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, particularly in patients who have not responded adequately to standard therapy with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin alone. ISIS 14803 is an experimental antisense phosphorothioate oligodeoxynucleotide that targets the translation initiation region of the HCV internal ribosome entry site (IRES), inhibiting viral protein expression by binding to viral RNA and inducing RNase H-mediated cleavage. Peginterferon alfa is a recombinant interferon that induces innate immune responses against HCV, while ribavirin is a nucleoside analog antiviral agent. The combination was studied in Phase 1/2 clinical trials to assess safety, tolerability, and antiviral activity in chronic hepatitis C patients with poor response to standard therapy[1][2][5][6].
