Overview

A nutritional combination consisting of isomaltulose, a low-glycemic disaccharide, and resistant dextrin, a soluble prebiotic fiber. This combination is typically studied as a functional food ingredient or supplement to improve glycemic control and insulin sensitivity. Isomaltulose (alpha-1,6-linked glucose and fructose) provides a slower, more sustained release of glucose compared to sucrose or maltose, resulting in a lower glycemic index. Resistant dextrin acts as a prebiotic fiber that may improve insulin resistance and promote satiety through gut microbiota modulation. In clinical research, this combination has been incorporated into alcohol-free beer to mitigate the high glycemic impact of traditional maltose-heavy beverages, demonstrating significant reductions in insulin concentrations and HOMA-IR in overweight or obese patients with type 2 diabetes.
