Overview

Dri-Ear (often stylized as Dri + Ear) is an over-the-counter (OTC) otic preparation used as an ear-drying aid to help relieve the discomfort of water-clogged ears after swimming, showering, or bathing. The formulation typically consists of 95% isopropyl alcohol in an anhydrous glycerin base. Isopropyl alcohol serves as the primary active drying agent, working by reducing the surface tension of trapped water and promoting its rapid evaporation from the external ear canal. This process helps prevent the development of otitis externa, commonly known as swimmer's ear, by eliminating the moist environment that facilitates bacterial and fungal growth. The glycerin component acts as a humectant and emollient to soothe the skin of the ear canal and prevent excessive irritation or desiccation that might otherwise be caused by the alcohol.
