Overview
Isosorbide diesters + colloidal oatmeal (IDEAS) is a topical combination therapy developed for the treatment of mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis (AD). The formulation consists of 4% isosorbide dicaprylate (IDC), 4% isosorbide disunflowerseedate (IDL), and 0.1% colloidal oatmeal. IDC, derived from coconut oil, primarily enhances skin hydration and supports early barrier recovery by upregulating genes associated with the epidermal permeability barrier. IDL, derived from sunflower seed oil, restores epidermal differentiation and barrier integrity while suppressing inflammatory gene expression. Together, these components demonstrate synergistic anti-inflammatory activity, reduce the relative abundance of *Staphylococcus aureus* on the skin, and decrease the clinical requirement for topical corticosteroids. The formulation was developed by Sytheon and has been evaluated in randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled clinical trials.
