Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination drug consisting of isosorbide mononitrate (a nitrate vasodilator) and amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker). This combination is used primarily for treating patients with ischemic heart disease and arterial hypertension. Isosorbide mononitrate works by releasing nitric oxide, which relaxes vascular smooth muscle, predominantly affecting veins. Amlodipine blocks calcium entry into smooth muscle cells, relaxing and widening blood vessels. Together, they provide enhanced vasodilation effects, improved blood pressure control, increased exercise tolerance, and better angina relief than either drug alone.
