Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ivermectin + doxycycline is a combination therapy that has been investigated primarily for treating COVID-19 infection. This combination works through multiple mechanisms, with ivermectin showing antiviral properties by potentially interfering with the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and ACE2 receptors, inhibiting viral entry into host cells, and binding to various viral proteins to impede viral replication. Doxycycline contributes antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects, while also addressing potential secondary bacterial infections in COVID-19 patients. Clinical trials have shown that this combination may reduce recovery time, decrease disease progression to more advanced stages, and improve viral clearance compared to other treatment options.
