Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination therapy consisting of three antiviral agents (nitazoxanide, ribavirin, and ivermectin) plus zinc supplementation. The combination was studied for its effectiveness in clearing SARS-CoV-2 in patients with mild COVID-19. In a non-randomized controlled trial, this combination demonstrated significantly higher viral clearance rates compared to supportive treatment alone, with clearance rates of 58.1% vs 0% on day 7 and 73.1% vs 13.7% on day 15. The cumulative clearance rate by day 15 was 88.7% for the combination therapy compared to 13.7% for supportive treatment. The therapy appears to clear SARS-CoV-2 from the nasopharynx in a shorter time than symptomatic therapy alone.
