Overview

Ixabepilone + carboplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily in the treatment of advanced or metastatic breast cancer, including hormone receptor-positive/HER2-negative and triple-negative subtypes. Ixabepilone is a semisynthetic analog of epothilone B that acts as a microtubule stabilizer by binding to β-tubulin subunits and suppressing their dynamic instability. This disrupts mitosis and induces cell death in cancer cells[1][6]. Carboplatin is an organoplatinum alkylating agent that forms DNA crosslinks, inhibiting DNA synthesis and function[8]. The combination has shown activity even in later-line settings for metastatic breast cancer with manageable toxicity profiles[2][5]. Ixabepilone was developed by Bristol Myers Squibb; its primary indication is for patients with metastatic or locally advanced breast cancer resistant to anthracyclines and taxanes[1][4].
