Ixabepilone + lapatinib is a combination of two FDA-approved anticancer agents used primarily in the treatment of advanced or metastatic breast cancer, particularly in patients whose disease has become resistant to standard therapies such as anthracyclines, taxanes, and trastuzumab. Ixabepilone is a semisynthetic analog of epothilone B that acts as a microtubule stabilizer by binding to β-tubulin subunits, thereby inhibiting cell division and inducing apoptosis. Lapatinib is an oral small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting both epidermal growth factor receptor (HER1/EGFR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), blocking downstream signaling pathways involved in tumor cell proliferation. Both drugs are indicated for use in breast cancer that has progressed despite prior treatments[1][3][6].
