Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jia Wei Xiao Yao San + Gou Teng + Ba Ji Tian is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) combination therapy investigated by the Taipei Veterans General Hospital for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. The formula consists of Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (a complex herbal mixture containing ingredients such as Bupleurum, Paeonia, and Glycyrrhiza), Gou Teng (Uncaria rhynchophylla), and Ba Ji Tian (Morinda officinalis). This combination is designed to leverage the synergistic effects of its components: Jia Wei Xiao Yao San is traditionally used to stabilize mood and alleviate neuropsychiatric symptoms; Gou Teng is recognized for its neuroprotective properties and potential to inhibit amyloid-beta aggregation; and Ba Ji Tian is used to enhance cognitive function and provide antioxidant support. The therapy was evaluated in a Phase 2 pilot study (NCT00425152) to assess its efficacy in improving cognitive and behavioral symptoms in dementia patients.
