Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jiaweisan'ao Decoction is a modified Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula based on the classic San'ao Decoction (San'ao Tang). It is primarily investigated for its potential to delay the progression of early-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), specifically in patients classified as GOLD 0–2. The base formula, San'ao Decoction, typically consists of *Ephedra sinica* (Ma Huang), *Prunus armeniaca* (Bitter Almond/Xing Ren), and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Licorice/Gan Cao). The "Jiawei" (modified) version includes additional herbal components tailored to address specific symptoms such as cough, phlegm, and airway inflammation. It is being studied by the Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to evaluate its efficacy in improving lung function and quality of life in COPD patients.
