Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Jojoba oil + broccoli sprout extract is a topical combination product consisting of jojoba oil as the carrier and an extract of broccoli sprouts enriched for sulforaphane. Sulforaphane is an isothiocyanate known to induce cytoprotective enzymes via activation of the nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) pathway. This combination has been investigated primarily for its effects on skin health, including modulation of keratin expression in keratin-based disorders such as epidermolysis bullosa simplex and pachyonychia congenita. In clinical studies, the compound was applied topically to human skin to assess its ability to induce protective keratins without affecting defective ones[1][4][5][6]. Broccoli sprout extract also shows potential in protecting against UV-induced skin damage by boosting endogenous protective enzymes rather than acting as a physical sunscreen[3]. The main active component from the broccoli sprout extract is sulforaphane.
