Drug intelligence / Profile preview
JYNNEOS is a live, non-replicating vaccine developed by Bavarian Nordic for the prevention of smallpox and mpox (monkeypox). It is based on the Modified Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic (MVA-BN) strain, a highly attenuated orthopoxvirus that cannot replicate in human cells. This non-replicating profile provides a significantly improved safety profile compared to traditional replicating smallpox vaccines like ACAM2000, making it suitable for immunocompromised individuals and those with atopic dermatitis. The vaccine works by stimulating both humoral (neutralizing antibodies) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses against orthopoxviruses, providing cross-protection against multiple viruses within the genus.
