Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Kan Jang + curcumin** is a combination of natural plant extracts being investigated for the treatment of the common cold and upper respiratory tract infections. Kan Jang is a well-established herbal medicinal product containing standardized extracts of *Andrographis paniculata* (SHA-10) and *Eleutherococcus senticosus* (SHE-3), originally developed by the Swedish Herbal Institute. Curcumin is a polyphenolic compound derived from turmeric (*Curcuma longa*) with potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The combination is being evaluated by Procter & Gamble in a Phase 3 clinical trial (EudraCT 2005-005207-42) to assess its efficacy in reducing the severity and duration of cold symptoms compared to placebo, with an active control arm of ibuprofen plus chlorphenamine maleate.
