Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**KarXT + KarX-EC** is a combination therapy consisting of an immediate-release (IR) capsule formulation (KarXT) of xanomeline tartrate and trospium chloride, plus an enteric capsule of xanomeline (KarX-EC). Xanomeline is a selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor agonist, and trospium chloride is a peripherally acting antimuscarinic agent used to mitigate peripheral cholinergic side effects of xanomeline. This combination is under investigation for the treatment of agitation and cognitive impairment associated with Alzheimer's disease, as well as in psychiatric disorders. The new dual-formulation is designed for both immediate and extended cholinergic activation profiles, aiming for improved efficacy and tolerability. Studies focus on long-term safety and efficacy in adult and adolescent populations with Alzheimer's-related agitation and other psychiatric conditions[4][7][8][9].
