Overview

A combination of ketamine, lidocaine, and dexmedetomidine is used as an intravenous admixture for opioid-free anesthesia and multimodal pain management. This mixture leverages the synergistic effects of its components to provide analgesia and sedation while minimizing opioid requirements. Ketamine acts primarily as an NMDA receptor antagonist, providing dissociative anesthesia and potent analgesia. Lidocaine is a sodium channel blocker with local anesthetic and systemic analgesic properties. Dexmedetomidine is a highly selective alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that provides sedation, anxiolysis, and additional analgesia without significant respiratory depression. The combination has been studied for perioperative pain control in both human and veterinary medicine[2][3][9]. It is typically prepared in specific concentrations (e.g., 1 µg/mL dexmedetomidine, 1 mg/mL ketamine, 10 mg/mL lidocaine) for intravenous infusion[2]. This admixture aims to reduce opioid consumption during surgery by providing effective multimodal anesthesia.
