Overview

Ketamine + scopolamine is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents with distinct mechanisms of action. Ketamine is an N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA receptor) antagonist primarily used for anesthesia and pain management, but it has also demonstrated rapid-acting antidepressant effects in treatment-resistant depression. Scopolamine is a belladonna alkaloid and anticholinergic agent that acts as a non-selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist; it is commonly used to prevent nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness or surgery. Preclinical studies suggest that the combination of subtherapeutic doses of ketamine and scopolamine may produce synergistic antidepressant-like effects, potentially offering rapid relief from depressive symptoms by targeting different neurotransmitter systems involved in mood regulation[3][6]. Both drugs are small molecules administered via various routes (e.g., intravenous for ketamine, transdermal or oral for scopolamine). The combination should be used cautiously due to the risk of additive side effects such as sedation, confusion, dizziness, and cognitive impairment[1][8].
