Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ketoprofen + amoxicillin** is a combination of two active pharmaceutical ingredients: ketoprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic in the penicillin class. Ketoprofen exerts its effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, leading to decreased production of prostaglandins responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever. Amoxicillin acts by binding to penicillin-binding proteins and inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in bactericidal activity against a range of susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. This combination could hypothetically provide simultaneous management of infection (with amoxicillin) and associated pain or inflammation (with ketoprofen); however, fixed-dose combination products containing both agents are not commonly marketed, and their joint use is typically at the discretion of a prescribing clinician. Both agents are often used in perioperative or post-surgical infection and inflammation scenarios, such as dental or periodontal procedures, though clinical studies and guidelines for fixed combination use are limited[1][4].
