Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ketorolac + dexamethasone is a fixed-dose combination of two active pharmaceutical ingredients: ketorolac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and dexamethasone, a synthetic corticosteroid. This combination is primarily used in ophthalmology for the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as bacterial eye infections and postoperative ocular inflammation. Ketorolac works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis responsible for pain and inflammation. Dexamethasone acts as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant by modulating gene expression to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators. Together, they provide synergistic effects in reducing pain, redness, swelling, and other symptoms associated with ocular inflammation or infection[8]. The combination has also been studied for use in acute pain management (such as renal colic) where it may reduce opioid requirements and improve control of nausea[5][6][9].
