Overview

Biosyn KLH is a high-molecular-weight, copper-containing protein derived from the hemolymph of the giant keyhole limpet, *Megathura crenulata*. As a highly immunogenic xenogenic protein, it is used in clinical medicine as both a therapeutic and diagnostic agent. It stimulates a potent T-cell dependent immune response, making it useful for assessing the integrity of the cellular immune system in patients with cancer or immunodeficiencies. Therapeutically, it is administered intravesically under the brand name IMMUCOTHEL for the treatment of superficial bladder cancer and the prevention of its recurrence. Furthermore, KLH is a standard carrier protein used in the development of conjugate vaccines, where it is chemically linked to haptens or tumor-associated antigens to enhance their immunogenicity.
