Overview

KINE-101 is a recombinant protein therapeutic developed by Kine Sciences Co., Ltd., specifically designed to treat acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and other severe inflammatory conditions. It is a recombinant form of the heavy chain of the inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor (ITI) protein complex. ITI is a naturally occurring plasma protein that functions as a systemic anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting various serine proteases (such as neutrophil elastase and plasmin) and by binding to hyaluronan to stabilize the extracellular matrix. In conditions like ARDS or sepsis, endogenous ITI levels are often severely depleted, contributing to uncontrolled inflammation and tissue damage. KINE-101 aims to restore these levels, thereby suppressing the hyper-inflammatory response (cytokine storm) and protecting lung tissue. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers.
