Overview

L-arginine + acetylsalicylic acid is a combination drug that merges the properties of two well-known molecules. L-arginine is an amino acid that serves as a precursor to nitric oxide, leading to vasodilation and improved endothelial function. Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with antiplatelet and anti-inflammatory effects due to its irreversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin and thromboxane synthesis. The combination aims for synergistic cardiovascular benefits by enhancing blood flow through nitric oxide-mediated vasodilation while simultaneously reducing inflammation and preventing platelet aggregation via aspirin’s action[1][2]. Preclinical studies suggest that co-administration may protect against aspirin-induced endothelial dysfunction by increasing dilator prostanoids[4].
