L-arginine + aspartate is a combination of two amino acids, L-arginine and L-aspartic acid (aspartate), commonly used as a dietary supplement. This combination is widely marketed for its potential ergogenic (performance-enhancing) properties, particularly among athletes. The primary mechanism involves synergistic metabolic effects during exercise—L-arginine serves as a precursor to nitric oxide, promoting vasodilation and improved blood flow, while also potentially reducing lactic acid production by inhibiting glycolysis. L-aspartate may favor fatty acid oxidation, supporting energy metabolism during physical activity. Clinical studies suggest that supplementation with this combination can lower blood lactate levels during submaximal exercise and increase fat utilization at lower workloads, leading to improved work efficiency and exercise tolerance[5]. Both components are naturally occurring amino acids involved in protein synthesis and various metabolic pathways.
