Drug intelligence / Profile preview
L-carnitine + piracetam is a fixed-dose combination of two agents, L-carnitine and piracetam, used primarily for their synergistic effects on fatigue, muscle strength, and mitochondrial protection. L-carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative involved in the transport of fatty acids into mitochondria for energy production. Piracetam is a nootropic agent that modulates cerebral metabolism by enhancing neuronal energy efficiency and restoring cortical cell function, thereby improving cognitive functions such as attention and memory. The combination has demonstrated efficacy in improving fatigue and muscular strength in patients with post-poliomyelitis syndrome (PPS) and may provide muscle-protective effects against statin-induced myalgia. Mechanistically, both agents protect against mitochondrial dysfunction through complementary actions[1][5][6].
