Overview

l-glutamine + sodium gualenate is an oral pharmaceutical combination used primarily for the treatment of gastric mucosal diseases, including gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer. The formulation contains two active ingredients: l-glutamine, an amino acid that serves as a precursor for mucoprotein synthesis and promotes ulcer healing by supporting the regeneration of gastrointestinal mucosa; and sodium gualenate (a water-soluble azulene derivative extracted from Asteraceae flowers), which exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting inflammatory mediators, suppressing histamine release from inflammatory cells, increasing prostaglandin E2 synthesis in the mucosa to promote granulation tissue formation and epithelial regeneration, and reducing pepsin activity. The combination is typically administered as blue-tinted granules for oral use. It is well tolerated with mild gastrointestinal side effects reported in less than 1% of patients[2][4][6][8].
