Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of l-methylfolate and methylphenidate studied for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). L-methylfolate is a form of folate that can cross the blood-brain barrier and is involved in the synthesis of neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine. Methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant commonly used to treat ADHD. The combination was investigated based on evidence that l-methylfolate augments antidepressant effects through catecholaminergic mechanisms that might also benefit ADHD treatment.
