Drug intelligence / Profile preview
L-methylfolate calcium + pyridoxal is a fixed-dose combination nutraceutical developed and manufactured by Saltvae Pharmaceuticals. L-methylfolate (5-MTHF) is the biologically active form of folate, which serves as a methyl donor in the one-carbon metabolism cycle, facilitating the conversion of homocysteine to methionine and supporting purine and pyrimidine synthesis for DNA. Unlike synthetic folic acid, L-methylfolate does not require enzymatic conversion by methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), making it particularly useful for individuals with genetic polymorphisms. Pyridoxal is a vitamere of Vitamin B6 that is enzymatically converted to pyridoxal-5-phosphate (PLP), a crucial cofactor for transamination, decarboxylation, and deamination reactions involved in protein synthesis and neurotransmitter production. This combination is utilized for the management of hyperhomocysteinemia and vitamin deficiencies, and to support prenatal health by preventing neural tube defects.
