Drug intelligence / Profile preview
L-tyrosine + phenol refers to the proprietary depot and preservative system developed by Allergy Therapeutics for its range of allergy immunotherapy vaccines, most notably the Pollinex and Pollinex Quattro lines. In this formulation, L-tyrosine serves as a biodegradable, crystalline adsorbent that acts as a depot, providing a sustained release of allergens (typically glutaraldehyde-modified allergoids) following subcutaneous injection. This slow-release mechanism allows for a significantly accelerated dosing schedule compared to traditional aqueous allergen extracts. Phenol is included in the formulation as a preservative. The system is primarily indicated for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and rhinoconjunctivitis caused by various pollens (e.g., grass, tree, or ragweed). By using allergoids, which have reduced IgE-binding capacity but maintained T-cell reactivity, the platform aims to improve safety and patient compliance while effectively inducing immune tolerance.
