Overview

A combination probiotic containing the bacterial strains *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, *Bifidobacterium infantis*, and *Enterococcus faecium*, marketed under the brand name Linex. This live biotherapeutic product is under investigation by Ain Shams University in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT06579066) for the treatment of uremic pruritus in non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The proposed mechanism of action is the modulation of the gut microbiome to reduce the production of uremic toxins, such as indoxyl sulfate, which are believed to contribute to pruritus. The study compares the efficacy of this oral capsule, given as an add-on therapy, against activated charcoal.
