Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus acidophilus + Lactobacillus casei is a probiotic combination product, most notably represented by the Bio-K+ formulation which contains the specific strains CL1285 and LBC80R. This combination is used to maintain and restore the balance of the intestinal microbiota, particularly in the context of antibiotic use. It works through competitive exclusion of pathogens, production of antimicrobial substances like lactic acid, and modulation of the host immune system. Clinical evidence supports its use for the prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) and Clostridioides difficile infections (CDI), as well as for managing symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The product is available in various oral forms, including capsules and fermented milk liquids.
