Overview
Lactobacillus acidophilus CL1285 + Lactobacillus casei is a probiotic formulation developed by Bio-K+ International (now a part of Kerry Group). The product consists of specific live bacterial strains, primarily *Lactobacillus acidophilus* CL1285 and *Lactobacillus casei* (specifically the LBC80R strain), and is marketed for the prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) and *Clostridioides difficile*-associated diarrhea (CDAD). The formulation works by colonizing the intestinal tract, producing antimicrobial metabolites such as lactic acid and bacteriocins, and competitively inhibiting the adhesion and growth of pathogenic bacteria. It has been extensively evaluated in clinical trials, particularly in hospitalized patients, demonstrating efficacy in reducing the incidence and severity of diarrhea following antibiotic treatment.
