Overview

A defined oral probiotic combination consisting of the live bacterial strains **Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1** and **Bifidobacterium lactis UABLA-12**. The combination has been developed and studied by groups associated with **UAS Laboratories** for gastrointestinal and immune-related conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome, atopic dermatitis, acute respiratory infections, and functional constipation. Its therapeutic rationale is microbiome modulation rather than receptor pharmacology: the live microbes are intended to alter gut microbial composition and metabolic activity, support intestinal barrier integrity, and modulate mucosal and systemic immune responses. In clinical studies, the combination has been administered orally at approximately **1 × 10^10 CFU/day per strain** or equivalent divided doses; in pediatric atopic dermatitis studies it has also been formulated with fructo-oligosaccharide as a synbiotic product. This is best characterized as a **probiotic nutraceutical/dietary supplement combination** rather than a conventional pharmaceutical drug.
